Were you properly trained prior to operating a crane or hoist?

OSHA states “Competent persons and qualified persons shall be trained regarding the requirements applicable to their respective roles.”

Many times employees are required to operate material handling equipment to complete their job assignments. Often employers do not ask the employee if they are trained on a specific piece of equipment. Employees have stated they have a fear about their current job knowledge is the reason they do not ask for help and try to run these pieces of equipment without the proper training. To prevent damage to the employee and the equipment, it is required that all employees receive training prior to operating cranes and hoists. This training is often from other trained employees or safety department trainers. The recommended type of training is from a professional in the Crane and Hoist business.

A sure sign of an experienced Crane and Hoist operator is someone who can answer basic and standard questions.
