This course is designed according to the requirements of the most up-to-date Crane & Derrick Standard Subpart CC
(Section 1926.1419-1422; 1926.1428) for signal person qualifications who signal overhead, mobile, and tower cranes.

 

Standard course length is 6-8 hours.

OSHA’s new crane standard requires the employer to ensure that each signal person meets these qualification requirements:

  • Know and understand the type of signals used. If hand signals are used, the signal person must know and understand the Standard Method for hand signals.
  • Be competent in the application of the type of signals used.
  • Have a basic understanding of equipment operation and limitations, including the crane dynamics involved in swinging and stopping loads and boom deflection from hoisting loads.
  • Know and understand the relevant requirement standards and regulations.
  • Demonstrate that he/she meets the requirements through an oral or written test, and through a practical test.

 

In addition, participants will learn:

  • Crane and Hoist Terminology
  • OSHA & ASME Standards
  • Power line Requirements & Restrictions
  • Lift Determination
  • Formulating a rigging plan
  • Crane Critical Lift planning

 

Conducted at your facility and adapted to each customer’s designed material handling needs. This course includes both classroom and hands-on training. Once the written examination testing is completed, hands-on exercises will be conducted to ensure proper signaling procedures are followed. 

Each student will receive a handbook that includes:

  • Crane Signaler manual
  • Rigging Card
  • Signal Card
  • Critical Lift Plan Forms

Note: Students will receive a Training Certificate and Wallet Card upon completion & review of test.
